What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
Do you want to learn about Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? Probably you landed here searching for something related to SEO. Let me tell you you came to the right place, scroll the page down, to find any specific topic of your query related to search engine marketing.
Search Engine Optimization is a set of practices, which is followed to bring the website to the top of SERP (Search Engine Result Page eg. Google) to gain more visitors inorganically.
In other words, SEO is a process through which we optimize our website or webpage in a way so that a search engine (like Google) likes to show our webpage at the top of search results, against any keyword.
Every day, around 2 million search queries run on Google, more than 2 million contents are published – you can imagine the competition.
Coming on the first page is tough, yet it is possible if followed well. You may get surprised that the top five results on the Google SERP page get 70% of hits. If your website is not on the first page of the SERP page (Google search page) that means it is not ranking.
Google shows only 17 search results against any keyword query. Out of these ten are non-paid (through SEO) and seven are advertisements (paid through AdSense).
These stats make this competition worth fighting for these ten places …isn’t it?
World’s top SEO experts advise spending half of the time in writing your content and the rest halftime in promoting that content through SEO techniques.
But, what are these techniques – Let’s talk about that.
We talk about the importance of SEO but what does this SEO really mean? What optimization we are talking about. Is it our website content, website images, links, or architecture? Frankly speaking, it’s all of these and many more.
Google has its own algorithm. Out of around 200 parameters (to decide on which is the best content to show against any search query), not all are known to the public. But if we could excel using in few parameters, that is going to give amazing results.
Types of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) –
Google recognize your site in two ways –
What you say to Google about your site : On-Page SEO
Who are you? What you do. Why you are better than others? How you have arranged your webpage. How well structured is your content? Whether visitors like your content and how they interact with your content. All these small things are being accessed through the algorithm and on the basis of these observations, sites get ranked.
Because this all depends on your own website, which is totally under your control, it is called On-Page optimization.
What others say to Google about your site : Off-Page SEO
Like in your society, few people know you, like you, and share positive feedback, while others may not. In the same way, if any website talks about your website, it is kind of up-vote and Google gives a better rank to your website.
This also explains another jargon of the SEO industry – No-Follow and Do-Follow. In the eyes of Google, if you get Do-Follow links, that is considered as a strong recommendation while if it is No-Follow it has relatively less credit.
This was just an overview. I have covered the detailed information about any topic in the following sub-heads.
I request you to go through these topics and develop a clear understanding. These techniques will add more value to your digital learning and increase your online earning (*if practiced well).
